Description
Medium: Fine Art Canvas Giclée Print of an Original Oil Painting (2025)
The oil painting titled "By His Wounds We Are Healed" is a deeply moving and tender portrayal of Jesus Christ holding an elderly man whose heart has been broken. The scene is filled with emotional depth and spiritual power, rendered in broad, expressive brushstrokes and warm, glowing tones.
At the center, Jesus stands strong yet gentle, His white robe flowing like light itself. His expression is one of profound compassion — eyes full of mercy, sorrow, and divine love. His arms cradle the elderly man, whose body is limp from the weight of grief and suffering. The man's face is lined with age, etched with pain, his eyes closed as if finally able to rest. One of his hands clutches his chest, symbolizing a heart shattered by life’s wounds — perhaps from loss, regret, or years of silent suffering.
But the heartache is not the end of the story.
Radiating from Christ's hands — the ones bearing the scars of crucifixion — is a visible cut, as if the very wounds that once bled now pour out healing. Blood seems to pour from His wound, suggesting a holy transfer of pain for peace, sorrow for restoration. The title verse from Isaiah 53:5 is embodied here: "He was wounded for our transgressions... and by His stripes, we are healed."
The background is abstract, perhaps symbolizing the world’s darkness or the long night of suffering the man has endured. Yet behind Christ, there is a gentle break of dawn — a soft golden light that hints at hope, eternity, and the promise of resurrection.
This painting captures more than a moment — it tells a story of redemption. It speaks to anyone who has carried a broken heart for too long. In the embrace of the Savior, healing begins. In His wounds, we are made whole.
